ILA Meet-up: Narrative Listening: A Community Discussion

Let’s talk about Narrative Listening:  A Community Discussion

Come learn about Narrative Listening and the fascinating research conducted by ILA members, Michael Humphrey, assistant professor, and Katie Mitchell, graduate student, at Colorado State University.  Starting in 2023, they have researched listening that focuses on the narrative identity of the speaker, using both prompts to help them think narratively about themselves or their situation and by listening for language that hints at the stories living just beneath the surface. They are doing this by speaking with people in vocations where narrative listening is vital: healers, leaders, teachers, advocates, servers and, of course, storytellers. They will share some of their experiences, including their novel method for collecting data.  Michael and Katie also want to hear your stories!
